In the Drone Building & Flight Workshop you assemble a quadcopter from its parts, set up the flight controller, calibrate the sensors and then fly it — first on a simulator, then for real under a trainer’s supervision.
Along the way you learn the physics that keeps a drone stable, how to handle LiPo batteries safely, and the rules for flying drones legally in India.
Who this course is for
- Students aged 14 and above with an interest in aviation and UAVs
- Engineering and diploma students looking for a hands-on project
- Hobbyists who want to build their own drone instead of buying one
What you will learn
- Drone types, components and how quadcopters fly
- Brushless motors, ESCs, propellers and LiPo battery safety
- Soldering, frame assembly and wiring
- Flight controller setup and sensor calibration
- Transmitter binding, flight modes and failsafes
- Simulator practice, supervised flying and India’s Drone Rules, 2021
Course plan
Days 1–3: How drones work
Components, flight physics and safety, plus soldering practice.
Days 4–6: Assembly
Build the frame, mount motors and ESCs, and wire the flight controller and power system.
Days 7–8: Configuration
Flash and configure the flight controller, calibrate sensors and bind the radio.
Days 9–10: Flight training
Simulator practice, then supervised hover, control and landing drills in a safe open area.
Days 11–12: Telemetry and missions
Telemetry, GPS basics and an introduction to planned missions, followed by a final flight test.
Projects you will build
- A fully assembled and calibrated quadcopter
- Supervised hover and manoeuvring flight
- A planned waypoint mission demonstration
Tools and hardware
Quadcopter frame, brushless motors, ESCs, propellers, flight controller, radio transmitter and receiver, LiPo batteries and charger, soldering station and a flight simulator. All equipment is provided during the workshop.
Prerequisites
No prior experience is needed. Basic familiarity with electronics helps. Students under 18 need a parent’s consent for flight sessions.
After the course
Continue with the Drone Technology Internship to work on telemetry and autonomous missions, or explore our Robotics and Embedded Systems courses.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to fly drones in India?
Yes, when you follow the Drone Rules, 2021 — including flying only in permitted green zones and registering drones where required. We cover these rules in the workshop and all flights are supervised.
Is it safe?
Safety comes first: propellers are fitted only for supervised flights, and you practise on a simulator before flying real hardware.
Do I get to keep the drone?
Workshop drones are lab equipment. If you want to build your own to keep, we can help you choose components.
Fees, batch timings and seat availability are shared on enquiry. Message us on WhatsApp or use the enquiry form, and our team will help you choose the right batch.
