This seminar introduced engineering students to how robots and automation are changing manufacturing, logistics and everyday products — and the skills needed to work in the field.
What the session covered
- How industrial robots, cobots and automated production lines work
- Sensors, actuators and controllers: the building blocks of every robot
- Live demonstrations of a line-follower, an obstacle-avoiding robot and a robotic arm
- Career paths in robotics, automation and mechatronics, and how to start building skills
Hands-on activity
Students worked in small groups to wire an ultrasonic sensor to an Arduino and program a simple distance alarm, seeing first-hand how a robot senses its surroundings.
Outcome
Participants left with a clear picture of the robotics field, a working first circuit and a roadmap of projects to try next. Interested students were guided towards our Robotics Foundations course and internship.
